On May 21, 2010 the ReThink + ReUse Center hosted its annual Trash Bash and welcomed guests to experience play like children. Thanks to the funds generated from last year's successful event, this years event was held at our new home located at 4548 SW 75th Avenue. Creative play areas were set up with our reusable resource materials including fabrics, tennis balls, and gold and silver leafing. Guests explored and created imaginative works of art using clean discarded materials with the help of local artists Frederico Uribe, Rosa Naday Garmendia, Roberto Garrido, and Yamil and Evelyn Molerio.
Sliders from jonathan eismann's restaurant Q
, peanuts from John Catalano’s
in South Miami, and the famous wings from Coconut Grove Hooters
were the perfect snacks for the casual atmosphere with guests using their imaginations to create their own pieces of art. For the health conscious Barry Burak with Affiliated Health Systems donated beautiful and tasty sushi boats. Fresh fruit complimented cheese platters and sweets.
The ReThink and ReUse Center collects materials from local businesses and the general public that would otherwise be discarded and end up in our landfills. The materials are cleaned, sorted and displayed for workshops with educators and children, play dates, and parties for children as well as “green” girls night out events.
This years committee: Sima Miska, Jaleh Samway Bast, Jeff Bast, Lorna Bravo, Teri Abraham-Vogel wish to thank the food sponsors, silent auction and raffle prize donors with a special thank you to the Fontainebleau Hotel for the two night stay.
The event was successful thanks to our sponsors. Thank you to major sponsors: Kaufman, Rossin & Co. and Sudsies Dry Cleaners and Laundry; and Royal Caribbean International; BastAmron, PA; Berkowitz Dick Pollack & Brant, CPAs; Bart H. Chepnik, P.A.; Laura and Eric Gould Family Philanthropic Fund; and Tannenbaum Weiss Attorneys at Law.

Play Date in the Park
The ReThink and ReUse Center artfully transformed the Coverings Etc’s eco friendly showroom for their Play Date in the Park event on April 24, 2009. Waffling throughout the room was soft music and the playful sound of adult voices as they allowed their “inner child” to come forth and create with found objects. Playing is hard work and so the players were treated to sumptuous dishes provided by some of Miami’s best chefs representing their restaurants: Giancarla Bodoni owner/chef of Escopazzo; Jonathan Eismann owner/chef of Pacific Time and Steven Perricone owner/chef of Perricone’s Restaurant donated their commitment, time, skills and food for this annual fundraiser.
Nourishing a more playful palette was food from Dogma and PizzaFusion. Peanuts from Five Guys, popcorn and lemonade with a slight “kick” could be found around the food tables. The night was topped off with cupcakes designed by Sweetcups and Italian coffee furnished by Comobar Coffee.
Once again those attending had the opportunity to participate in making bottlecap art, build with tubes and transform wood frame pieces into works of art.
The mission of the ReThink and ReUse Center mission is to support training and provide materials to promote educational experiences uniting educational experiences with environmental responsibility. The night’s funds went to help support the new facility where materials from local businesses are diverted from landfills and collected, sorted and displayed. The recyclable materials are available for teachers, parents and children to experience educational and creative activities through play using the creative objects and encouraging community-wide ecological responsibility. Artists also utilize the facility for materials.
The new facility houses space for workshops, play dates, parties for children as well as adult “Green” Girls Night Out.

The Green Ball
Smooth sounds provided by DJ Norton Rodriguez, drinks and delicious hors d’oeuvres by Chef Petey helped relax and release the “inner child” of those attending the ReThink and ReUse Center’s first Green Ball on October 13, 2007 in the art and design district.
Environmental awareness permeated the party as those attending laughed and exhibited with pride their artful creations made from recyclable materials such as zippers, wood, fabric, cardboard tubes, tiny bottles, pearls, and gold and silver leaf. There was quite a buzz with the questions of the night: ”what and where is this from and what was it used for?” The walls were awash with beautiful and innovative art by local artist : Carson Case, Bill Stahl, Tomas Loewy, Daniel Fiorda, Charo Oquett who all use found objects as part of their medium.
The Green Ball is grateful to the following businesses who contributed to make the night a success: Dacra, hi-gloss advertising + marketing design, Tony Martinez photography, Neoteric Home, Resource4floors, Alan Solis for Belvedere Vodka and Hennessy Cognac, Raul Suarez of Premier Beverage, Sweet Suzy Confections and Superior Party Rentals.
The ReThink and ReUse Center collects clean reusable materials from businesses that would be discarded and thrown into landfills. The materials are stored and redistributed to teachers, parents and children to experience learning through play using found objects while encouraging community-wide ecological responsibility.
